Hypnobirthing: a brief introduction
Hypnobirthing in Berkshire and Surrey blends birth physiology and relaxation techniques to make bringing a baby into the world a more comfortable and ultimately positive experience.

The surprising bit?
Hypnobirthing is entirely logical and based on scientific fact. It’s simply the psychology of birth and the study of birth physiology – it’s about learning how to best nurture your birth hormones and navigate your instincts. Parents who have invested in hypnobirthing have cited the following pluses to me in recent years:

The potential to shorten labour.
No promises, but gentle hypnosis during birth may help shorten the first stage of labour. This stage involves both early and active labour, when contractions become longer, stronger and closer together as the cervix opens.

Fewer interventions.
Evidence-based research has shown conclusively that hypnobirthing can help mothers to avoid medical intervention. If you’re more in control of your choices and birthing environment, you naturally relax into the experience. This encourages supremely relaxed muscles and allows your mind to clear and operate in a new and powerful way. A relaxed mind equals a relaxed body.

Natural pain management.
If you’re trying to go drug-free, hypnobirthing may help. The more relaxed you are, the less likely you are to need pain-relief.

Feel in control.
When you’re fully relaxed, you have far less to fear from childbirth. This can give you a confidence boost and give you a sense of control that lots of people don’t expect from the experience.
Additionally, hypnobirthing can be a powerful tool in combating the flooding of the body with adrenaline and the “fight or flight” instinct that comes with it. When your body senses danger or anticipates fear, it can automatically go into shut down resulting in discomfort, panic and, of course, pain. Hypnobirthing can help release oxytocin (the “love hormone”) that in turn results in the kind of relaxation and calm that can keep you centred, focussed and, most importantly, relaxed.
The key thing to understand is this: relaxation techniques aren’t just lovely extras to make the birthing room a more pleasant place. Relaxation is absolutely essential for a smoother experience and, statistically, a natural birth.

My sought after in person hypnobirthing course is a fully comprehensive antenatal course designed to help you and your birth partner understand how the uterus works on a physical, muscular level, as well as on a hormonal level. I’m committed to preparing you for a comfortable, calm pregnancy and inspiring confidence during the birth in an attentive, caring yet completely professional way.
Hypnobirthing in Berkshire, Hampshire and Surrey, available as group classes or one-to-one, is completely science-driven and designed to improve your chances of natural birth.
Based in Sandhurst, I offer personal, information-packed hypnobirthing classes, limited to a maximum of 3 couples. Courses include a considerable amount of antenatal knowledge, so my clients rarely need any other form of antenatal class.
